July 29 - Becks: Music Inspires Art: These New Puritans - dj set

These New Puritans - DJ set
Gold Panda
Standard Planets
Hoodlums
The Eyes In The Heat

Still the masters of their game, These New Purtitans released their ‘difficult second album’ Hidden to salivating reviews this year. Their music takes on influences from new wave, dubstep, art rock, electronica and glitch… expect their DJ set to turn heads.

GOLD PANDA - A unique blend of samples mixed with warm, euphoric beats.

STANDARD PLANETS - Standard Planets create epic symphonies that effortlessly combine elements of monolithic drone, caustic machine funk, ‘67 psych and carpathian hillbilly.

HOODLUMS - Big quiffs and twangy guitars. They also cause an absolute riot when they play live.

THE EYES IN THE HEAT - A voice, a guitar and a drum machine. That’s all TEITH need to create an all encompassing, extremely sultry sound.

And it’s all FREE…
From 9pm – 1am

Thursday 29th July - Becks Vier Music Inspires Art Presents…

Gold Panda Live Set

Gold Panda exemplifies all that is great about new music at the minute. Tracks of devastating beauty are constructed almost entirely from found samples using “old records, VHS’s brought in charity shops and the odd 90’s computer game samples. Live, he adopts the common posture of the knob twiddling laptop gazer with his eyes scanning the array of esoteric machines and boxes that lay before him.  He splices beats and deconstructs sounds to their core and where any semblance of a regular pattern is omitted in a track, it’s replaced by ambient noise. A unique blend of samples and warm, euphoric beats.

Graffiti Analysis: 3D

These guys from F.A.T. Lab are really taking thinking about graffiti to the next level. First James Powderly and Evan Roth invented Laser Tag, a way to write with light using just a laser pointer, a projector, and a laptop. Then their pal Aram Bartholl created tags out of computer capture codes. Roth is at it again, this time designing Graffiti Analysis 2.0, a way to digitally map the motion involved in making graffiti, then model it in 3-D, illustrated from start to finish in the video above.
